Revert the rendering/output runtime emission reordering implemented in #68

This ordering turned out to be a lot more load-bearing than I thought – turns out the argument in this comment turns out to be significant for more than just debugging, we also rely on it for navigation. More details in #54 (comment) (let's keep the discussion about ordering there), but the short version is that the behavior change in #68 was actually wrong, it breaks things, and needs to be reverted.
