I think appending libffi-dev to the package list is sufficient

sudo apt-get install build-essential python-dev python-setuptools python-pip python-smbus

none of the python-* packages are needed.

sudo apt-get install libssl-dev openssl
sudo apt-get install libffi-dev

If you need tkinter support, add ``tk-dev``.
