2.3 release?

With current describe being 2.2.1-151-g586c0e07 I thought it might be time to think about the release. The list of PRs is quite busy with outstanding ones, such as #567.

A release would be good. I'm moving house this week, so won't have much time, but the weekend and following should be better.
