Steps to Reproduce

1. Write a comment or any other text field for an object using Unicode characters
2. Open the Change Log

Unreadable characters appear in the Change Log

Expected Behavior

The comment or other text field should be readable.

Actual string is: "Маркировка TEL: Collocation 08/26" (UTF-8)

Observed Behavior

comments: "\u041c\u0430\u0440\u043a\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0432\u043a\u0430 TEL: Collocation 08/26"

Please provide the specific values someone else can use to reproduce the reported behavior.

Sure. It is any UTF-8 string. These values could reproduce the behavior:
¿Qué es Unicode? in Spanish
Маркировка TEL Collocation 08/26 in Russian

Seems like this affects only the UI; the REST API returns the data with proper encoding.

Found it. Just need to pass ensure_ascii=False when calling json.dumps().
