I'm trying to get a python nats client connected to synadia-cloud installed on an embedded linux system (https://opentrons.com/products/flex/) as part of a Biotech manufacturing assembly line.

They're running CPython 3.8 with an older version of pip and setup tools so the source dists with the newer version of setup tools don't currently work for us.

We're paying synadia cloud users if that helps prioritize the issue :)
