Aliases or Preferences?

Per the Application Framework page

https://wiki.magento.com/display/MAGE2DOC/Application+Framework

A new global <aliases/> node (Node: /global/di/aliases) is where new class rewrites should go. However, in the current available Magento 2 snapshot, Magento looks for rewrites at /global/di/preferences.

If this is the new location, the Application Framework page should be updated. If it's not, the behavior should be fixed.

@astorm DI preferences is the mechanism to use, information on aliases is outdated. Yes, docs should be updated.
