Gradle 5 (and subsequently, Java 11) is not yet supported, since the current mechanism of resolving Kotlin compiler libraries crashes under the new Gradle version:

Execution failed for task ':server:copyKotlinJVMLib'.
> No such property: artifactDefinitions for class: org.gradle.api.internal.artifacts.ivyservice.ivyresolve.parser.DefaultParseResult

ok thanks, atm I just set JAVA_HOME to a jdk 1.8, and it works.

Yup, for now Java 8 is the only supported version. (See #109)
