Missing dependencies specified for SPM

Description

We're using Tuist in our project to generate Xcode project for us. Due to structure of our modules we need to integrate several Firebase libraries to be linked dynamically. But we encountered several build errors when making FirebaseSessions, FirebaseRemoteConfigInternal and GoogleAppMeasurement to be linked dynamically.

This happens because these targets are missing several dependencies in target descriptions in Package.swift:

1. FirebaseSessions missing nanopb dependency specified.
2. FirebaseRemoteConfigInternal missing GULEnvironment dependency from GoogleUtilities package.
3. GoogleAppMeasurement missing GULLogger and GULEnvironment dependencies from GoogleUtilities package.

Can we update Package.swift for Firebase iOS SDK and GoogleAppMeasurement?

Hi @nostrouh, based on our docs, SPM provides statically linked libraries only. Have you tried adding .dynamic in your Package.swift as a workaround mentioned #12025?

Hello @rizafran, the problem described in the issue has occurred when we changed linkage to be dynamic from static.
I assume that when you use default SPM integration Xcode is able to find missing dependencies. But we're using Tuist to generate Xcode project. And it has it own dependency resolution mechanism. When dependency is not specified in Package.swift we get undefined symbols build error.

As @rizafran pointed out, the Firebase Analytics libraries, including Google App Measurement, do not support dynamic linking.

@paulb777 Yes, I got that Firebase libraries do not support dynamic linking out of the box. But it does with workarounds on our side, like the one @rizafran mentioned.

But, for example, FirebaseSessions uses nanopb in SessionStartEvent. But there is no import of nanopb in the file and nanopb is not specified as dependency for FirebaseSessions target in Package.swift.
The same case for FirebaseRemoteConfigInternal and GoogleAppMeasurement.

My question: is it possible to update Package.swift files to include these missing dependencies? This is only change that is required to resolve the issue for us.

@nostrouh Thanks for the clarification and persistence. There are definitely missing dependency declarations in Package.swift. We plan to address in our next release.
