📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

A new changeset file was added to indicate a patch update for the @clerk/clerk-js package, specifically addressing issues with browser navigation behavior for tabs. In the useTabState hook, the import style for React hooks was updated, and a new useEffect was introduced to synchronize the selected tab state with the URL query parameter. This ensures that tab selection updates appropriately in response to browser back and forward navigation. No changes were made to the exported function signatures.

Learning: In SessionTasks component at packages/clerk-js/src/ui/components/SessionTasks/index.tsx, the useEffect that checks for pending tasks should only run on mount (not react to currentTask/status changes) to handle browser back navigation edge cases without interfering with normal task completion flow managed by nextTask().

packages/clerk-js/src/ui/hooks/useTabState.ts (3)

1-1: LGTM: Import optimization

Direct import of hooks is more efficient and cleaner than importing the entire React object.

18-18: LGTM: Consistent with import change

Using directly imported useState is consistent with the updated import statement.

9-38: Add tests for browser navigation behavior

The hook now handles browser back/forward navigation, which is a critical feature that should be thoroughly tested. Consider adding tests that verify:

  • Tab state synchronizes correctly with URL query parameters
  • Browser back/forward navigation updates the selected tab
  • Programmatic tab changes don't interfere with navigation handling

Since no test files were provided in this PR, please ensure comprehensive test coverage is added for the new navigation functionality.

.changeset/all-doors-sing.md (1)

1-6: LGTM: Changeset properly documents the fix

The changeset correctly specifies a patch update for @clerk/clerk-js and clearly describes the browser navigation fix for tabs.
