Documentation section on Environment Variables

It would be useful to have a doc section on envvars, seeing as we're starting to get more of them (that are quite useful as well!) Things like JULIA_PKGDIR, JULIA_LOAD_PATH (once #5425 is merged), JULIA_HOME, JULIA_CPU_CORES, JULIA_EDITOR, etc...

The JULIA_EDITOR stuff is awful, imo. I was completely unable to use it for Pkg.edit() and just used the traditional EDITOR variable instead.

Should we just remove JULIA_EDITOR and rely on EDITOR then?

I'm not sure. I don't really like the way the edit functionality in base/util.jl works. It always seems to be broken for me.

Why is this issue closed? The docs don't seem to include such a section.
