Index Search Excluded Paths does not work when searching individual files/folders

After installing plex media server, i started getting a million plex folders in my flow searches - so i right clicked to exclude them from explorer search and didn't have the option, rather it said "From Index Search: No". Is there a way to stop such folders from being included? I edited the settings file to change "include directory search" to false but that didn't seem to do the trick.

If there is not currently a way to achieve this, would love to see that - there are just so many folders i don't want in my flow searches.

You can exclude location from index search with this in settings:

If From Index Search is No, this means that selected folder is not coming from index search. Did you just search plex and those folders come up or are you searching inside a directory?

not searching within a directory. i'm currently working on projects for work with numbers in the name, and the plex sub folders are just a string of numbers and letters - so every time i tried to search for the work project folders i was getting the plex sub folders. also if i just type the path (e:\plex) it shows up with all the sub folders. i do have the folder at issue on that exclude list, but it continues to show up in results from the explorer plugin nevertheless. i guess you're saying that it being on the exclude list is why it says "from index search - no." but in that case, i don't understand why it's showing up in searches at all. isnt it supposed to be excluded? perhaps i'm misunderstanding what the exclude list is supposed to do? in any case, perhaps the workaround is to just set the everything plug-in to a higher priority than explorer plugin - as i know my everything exclusions work well.

So you have added e:\plex to the 'Index Search Excluded Paths' and its sub folders are still showing up? Can you show me a screenshot please.

Adding to that excluded path setting means do not use index search for the folder's files, folders and subdirectories. However DirectoryInfo search is active so if you typed the search 'e:\plex' it will still bring up all of the contents in that location. Basically index search helps find individual files or folders as long as they are indexed, and DirectoryInfo search finds files and folders of the given path but can't just search them by name, a location (eg. 'e:\plex') needs to be specified first.

Any how if you have added 'e:\plex' to the setting and still getting them from index search then maybe there is a bug where the excluding is not being honored.

You mentioned you use Everything plugin, would you mind just double checking that these results are not from Everything plugin, you can go to the result's context menu and scroll to the bottom to see which plugin the result came from.

Here are a few examples - one using E:\Plex Media Server ("E:\Plex" was just shorthand) and one using C:\RJL Databases. Both are on the exclusions list, but both (or subfolders) are showing up in results. Note that the C:\RJL Databases example says "from index search yes" and the plex one says "no"

use this build here, exclusion should now work properly as well as not breaking Everything plugin. This build is from the current production release but with changes from pr 386 added:
