Tests failing: terminal reports back "error in plugin solidity-coverage"

Have been attempting some exercises from chainlink's recent smart contracts bootcamp. When checking the solidity coverage I'm getting the following final message: "Error in plugin solidity-coverage: ❌ 3 test(s) failed under coverage".

I was directed to Github for answers so hoping you guys can help.

This is probably due to #652 which has a work-around documented in this comment (and below)

The above command gives error : Error in plugin solidity-coverage: TypeError [ERR_INVALID_URL]: Invalid URL
