sorry for the radio silence on this. we have discussed this in the crates.io team meeting. we had anticipated that the limit might be a bit on the low side, but we wanted to start there and raise it if needed, since the opposite would be a bit more complicated. we have decided to raise the limit from 500 downloads/month to 1000. assuming that you are talking about https://crates.io/crates/iced_file_tree, which is 7 months old at the moment, that would give you a limit of 7000 downloads. with 8324 downloads at the moment, this would still exceed the limit, but should hopefully allow the deletion soon.
yeah, that is unfortunately a legitimate concern for the suggestion and makes the logic a little hard to comprehend :-/ |

For about half a year I've been waiting to delete an old crate of mine, that I know for a fact I have only ever used and is currently unused, in order to free up the name. However it seems the bot traffic on it is close to or over the 500/month limit, presumably because it has 12 published versions (all yanked for that half year). All published versions seem to all be downloaded together by bot traffic, since their download histories are nearly identical.
I apologize if something like this has come up before, but I can't find the discussion that led to the concrete current 500/month limit. I would like to suggest reformulating it to something that takes bot traffic on crates with multiple versions into account. This could possibly look something like this:
