Creating a configurable product?

Maybe I'm just lost but I'm unable to create a configurable product. I've tried about every way to use the new image/option or feature that allow us to change the image based on choice of color. Can anyone give me some hints on configurable products and how they have changed?

or just how to create one.. changing the custom global drop down options for simple products doesn't seem to import or allow me to choose in general product. Plus all products are saved as simple products when choosing a configurable..

Hello. The changes in production creation are still work in progress. I will try to get someone to post here more information about configurable products.

Configurable product updates are in progress now. Page design, help and final backend logic will be available soon.
The updated UI will allow user to create a configurable product within one page.
So, all general product information and available variations will be managed within one tab. Overall workflow will have the following steps:

1. Start product creation as a simple one
2. Add general product information
3. Choose attributes for variations
4. Generate product variations based on chosen attribute values
5. Map existing simple products to generated variations OR simple products can be automatically created by the system for each variation
